The Massachusetts State Senate just passed a major bill (S.2829) that would drive our state toward both those goals. Now, we need the Massachusetts House of Representatives to consider and pass it before it can head to Governor Healey’s desk.

I'm writing to urge you to advocate for the House to take up a climate and energy bill. This bill should accelerate the pace of clean energy deployment in Massachusetts, while protecting environmental justice communities and our most valuable farms, forests, and wetlands.

The bill that the Senate passed establishes a framework for siting new clean energy infrastructure that requires developers to avoid and minimize impacts on our natural and working lands, which are essential to reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. And where impacts to nature cannot be avoided, this bill establishes that the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs will set requirements for project developers to compensate for those impacts.  I hope the House will embrace these policies as well.

The Commonwealth doesn't need to choose between deploying clean energy infrastructure and protecting our natural and working lands. The House should vote to accelerate siting and permitting for projects that meet new requirements for lower impacts to natural and working lands and environmental justice communities.
