Dear Friends of Allens Pond,
Can you believe we're about to say "farewell" to 2012...and Laura Johnson, who will be stepping down as President of Mass Audubon? Henry George Tepper will be transitioning into this important leadership role and you can read more about the upcoming passing of the binoculars here.
This year has been very busy for us and marked by some great accomplishments - the grand opening of our beautiful Stone Barn, the inaugural running of the Ducky Dash 5k, evolution to online program registration and many new programs and events at multiple locations between Allens Pond and Great Neck. We are thankful for the meaningful relationships and stellar support we are able to harness and look forward to making more great strides in 2013!
We also welcomed Randi Graham as our new Office Assistant/Bookkepper and Barry Gross as our Caretaker, living at Stone Barn Farm. They have been wonderful additions to our team.
Please note - Junior Bird Club is not going to meet during the month of January but will return in February. Sign up for the fun and join us!
With so much to be thankful for, we're most thankful for YOU, our friends, donors, volunteers and visitors. Come see us before the calendar flips to 2013.
Warm holiday wishes to all,
~The Allens Pond Team~
UMass Dartmouth Students Present Their Works
UMass
Dartmouth Graphic Design seniors presented their semester’s service
learning projects to Allens Pond staff and volunteers this week. The
eleven students completed client-based projects, guided by the Sanctuary
staff, which focused on Stone Barn Farm history, community outreach,
seasonal birds, and Wareham natural history. They also produced
independent projects that ranged from photo essays
of the Sanctuary, a t-shirt design for Spooktacular, a Monarch butterfly
face board, a Native American coloring book, and a smart phone "app" to
use on the trails. The goal is to use the students’ projects for
visitor interpretation at the newly opened Stone
Barn and throughout the greater South Coast Sanctuaries community.
