Greetings from all of us at Allens Pond!
We have had a very productive start to the year here at Allens Pond - actively reviewing summer intern candidates, and Coastal Waterbird Program applicants and we just hired a past season wildlife intern alum, Sarah Daley as our newest part-time Teacher Naturalist. Sarah will be leading our school vacation week and summer programming for children and makes a wonderful addition to our team.
We've also started up the Duck Derby engine - it's year #12 for our fabulous summer fundraiser. Speaking of which, Valentine's Day is a great opportunity to get your loved one(s) the gift of a racing duck...or a flock of 5...or even a box of quackers (so much better than a box of chocolates) and we even have cute eCards to go with the gift. It's meaningful, green, and can be purchased online or over the phone with a credit or debit card by calling the field station at (508) 636-2437.
We also have some great group volunteer opportunities available. Lauren needs help removing Rosa rugosa (beach rose) from our barrier beach - if you're interested, please let us know. We also have a Coastal Waterbird Work Day forthcoming in March where we get the beaches ready for the incoming plovers, terns and other returning migrants and erect symbolic fencing.
Statewide Volunteer Day, our annual morning of volunteerism at the Allens Pond field station, will take place on Saturday, April 25th from 9 am until noon. We hope to have two teams working on butterfly garden beautification and invasive species eradication. Call or email Jen to sign up and take part in this fun and rewarding work day.
Get out and enjoy the snow and all winter has to offer, and we hope to see you soon!

There is nothing more rewarding than witnessing that moment when a connection to nature is made! |
We're pleased to have so many visitors, volunteers, program participants and students involved with the important and meaningful work we perform at our sanctuaries and one way we connect kids ages 6-10 with nature and our sanctuary is through our vacation week programming.
Our February Vacation Week Fun Days program runs from Monday through Thursday during school vacation and you can sign your child(ren) up for whichever day(s) you'd like. Cost is $40/day for Mass Audubon members and $50/day for nonmembers. You can register online and also purchase a membership, if you don't already have one and enjoy the programming discount as well as a year's worth of statewide benefits. |
