GET INVOLVED
Let's Hear it for the Birds!

Birdathon 2012

Get your binoculars ready! Bird-a-thon, our annual fundraiser during which teams across the state spend 24 hours trying to spot the most species in Massachusetts, will kick off at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11.

You don’t have wake up at the crack of dawn or be out in the field to be part of this time-honored tradition. You can make a difference by raising funds for your local wildlife sanctuary—or a Mass Audubon program that's important to you—from the comfort of your own home.

Join a Bird-a-thon team today or donate to make a difference!

Where in Mass Audubon Are We Now?

Where Are We Now?

Congratulations to everyone who guessed that the last photo featured in Explorations was taken at Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport. Of all those with correct guesses, Derry of Wellfleet was chosen at random to be the lucky winner of a pocket field guide.

Ready to guess another Mass Audubon wildlife sanctuary?
The gardens at the sanctuary shown above were originally designed by the Olmsted Brothers landscape design firm. Today, the gardens draw birds and nature lovers, not to mention brides and grooms.

Email your guess by May 15 and you could win a pocket field guide.

Like taking photos? Then send us your best shot! Once again we’re seeking photos that highlight people in nature and the beauty of Massachusetts wildlife and landscapes.

Last year, we received more than 2,700 images. We can’t wait to see what you have in store for us this year! For 2012, we've added new categories and prizes as well as updated the entry levels.

Find everything you need to know about how and what to enter.

LIVING WITH WILDLIFE
You Lookin' At Me?

Cardinal Facing WindowYou're minding your own business when all of a sudden you hear an aggressive "tap, tap, tap" on your window. You go to get a closer look and right before your eyes a cardinal is attacking your window. Or, you’re heading out to your car when you notice a robin frantically flying toward the side mirror.

Sound familiar? This type of behavior—though seemingly strange—is not uncommon. In fact, there's a very good reason your window (or car) has come under attack.

Find out which birds attack and why. Plus, what you can do about it.

PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH
The Search is On

Laura Johnson, our current president, recently announced that she will be stepping down by the end of this year. We've officially begun our search for her successor with the help of The Bridgespan Group.

Read the job description and contact Bridgespan to provide your input or recommendations.
