Fall is such a wonderful time to explore the outdoors. The air is crisp, the foliage vibrant, and the activities plentiful.

Explore our wildlife sanctuaries across the state on your own or join one of our many programs, during which you can have fun while learning about birds, art, plants, ecology, and more.

Search for upcoming programs and be sure to check out the latest issue of Connections, our member newsletter.

A Gold Star Project

colleen.jpgWe recently received a letter from Colleen Kiely, a young Mass Audubon member from western Massachusetts.

Colleen spent her summer at the Cape Cod National Seashore teaching visitors about piping plover conservation as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award project. We are so inspired by her story that we want to share it far and wide.

Read Colleen's story.

Where in Mass Audubon Are We Now?

Congratulations to everyone who guessed that the last photo featured in Explorations was taken at Attleboro Springs Wildlife Sanctuary in Attleboro. Of those with correct guesses, Paula F. was chosen at random to be the lucky winner of a pocket field guide.

Ready to guess another Mass Audubon wildlife sanctuary?

This wildlife sanctuary invites you to explore your artistic side. Exhibitions feature art by internationally recognized artists, and programs for people of all ages teach techniques so that they can make their own nature-inspired masterpieces.

Where are we now?

Email your guess by November 15 and you could win a pocket field guide.

Wildlife Spotlight: Bats

Though bats have become symbolic of our spookiest holiday, they are benevolent, diverse, and fascinating throughout the year.

One out of every five mammal species on earth is a bat. They may look like flying mice, but bats are more closely related to carnivores and hoofed animals. They are the only mammals capable of true flight, and their wings consist of four elongated fingers with skin stretched between them.

Learn more about bats.

Climate Speaker Series

Mass Audubon has partnered with the Appalachian Mountain Club and the Union of Concerned Scientists to host Climate Change, Energy, and the Outdoors, a four-part educational series taking place in Boston.

The first event is October 28. And don't miss the November 17 talk to learn more about our Make the Switch program.

Get the details.
