Dear Friends of Allens Pond,
Welcome, wonderful winter! This year has been off to a busy start, and we are enjoying another
sunny winter day with eastern bluebirds, northern harriers and common eiders all
within a stone’s throw. It’s nice to take a moment to enjoy the birds who
visit the sanctuary during this peaceful season.
We have been working on the upcoming season's worth of programming, and can happily announce that programs are now listed in our online calendar through the summer. We've got a full lineup of programming for the kids, including our fantastic Junior Bird Club, expanded yoga programming running mid-May through mid-October, our celebrated weekend wellness retreat and some good old-fashioned family campouts at Stone Barn Farm...amongst many other exciting programs. Check it out and join us!
We would also like to give a big shout-out to our friends at Sperry Tents, who renewed their involvement in our Community Partners Program, providing wellness benefits to their employees and families that encourage them to get outdoors and enjoy nature while demonstrating their company's commitment to our mission and sanctuaries. Above, you'll notice those familiar blue star tents, seen annually at the Duck Derby Festival. Did you know that Sperry manufactures all of their tents? Here's some interesting company history:
In 1979, sailmaker Steve Sperry built the first-ever Sperry Tent using his fabric design skills and the materials available in his sail loft, Sperry Sails. Little did he know that this prototype would evolve into a full line of rental tents whose look and feel would create an international revolution in event tents.
Steve’s son, Tim, took over ownership of Sperry Tents and incorporated it separately from Sperry Sails in 1996. As president of Sperry Tents Tim has grown the company from one rental office in Mass. into a large family of licensed providers across the country and abroad.
Today, Sperry Tents is still a family-owned enterprise, with Sperry Fabric Architecture, helmed by Steve’s other son, Matt, producing the tents and Tim overseeing the rental network. And while the company has welcomed new manufacturing technologies and canopy shapes, it continually prioritizes classic, timeless fabric designs.
Mass Audubon’s Community Partners Program presents local businesses and nonprofits with an opportunity to offer great benefits to their employees while supporting Mass Audubon’s efforts to protect wildlife and wild lands in the local community and across Massachusetts. Some of the benefits Community Partners receive include:
- Memberships for employees, providing them with a full year of all Mass Audubon has to offer, from free wildlife sanctuary admission, to special savings on programs, and gift shop purchases.
- Passes for free wildlife sanctuary admission to be enjoyed by your team, or gifted to others in your community.
- Community Partners employees may also purchase new Mass Audubon memberships for themselves or as gifts, at a savings of 50% off the regular rate!
There are four levels of the program, with a range of benefits to fit any local business or nonprofit's size and needs. We all know that being active and getting outdoors is beneficial for body, soul and mind - so please pass the word along to any company or nonprofit that you think would like to offer this wellness benefit to their employees. If you have any questions about the program, contact Jen at the field station by email or (508) 636-2437.
Speaking of getting outdoors - the sun is shining and the beach loop is beckoning...come visit us this winter - it's a gorgeous season!
Hope to see you soon,
~The South Coast Sanctuaries Team~
