Thank YOU for Helping to Make the 2016 Duck Derby a Huge Success!

Mass Audubon Allens Pond Duck Derby Logo

This year's Duck Derby was indeed the "Lucky 13" year and brought in over $55,000 through a record-breaking number of racing duck adoptions, amazing silent and live plant auctions and festival income. Income from the event goes directly towards supporting the work we do at Allens Pond.

Did you know you can adopt racing ducks online any time of year? They make great gifts while supporting our work and sanctuary stewardship.

September 2016

Fall Has Arrived!

Pumpkin from Allens Pond

The monarchs are stopping over in the butterfly garden, leaves are starting to change and there's a crispness in the air that signals the arrival of fall—an amazing season to visit Allens Pond and Great Neck.

Our monarch tagging station is open for one more weekend and we encourage you to join in this important citizen science project.

We also have a great lineup of fall programming—including our Great, BIG "Walk it Off" Weekend Hike the day after Thanksgiving where we walk the entire length of the Quansett Trail from Stone Barn Farm to the field station and return, for six miles of post-feast redemption. Space is limited; register online to secure your spot.

We had a great season of facility rentals at our beautiful Stone Barn and the 2017 season is open for bookings. Check out the details online and email us if you'd like to schedule a site visit to discuss your event. It's a beautiful site to host a party and connects your guests to our sanctuary and mission.

Don't forget to check out our Great Neck Facebook Page, which is a great way to stay connected with our sanctuary in Wareham. "Like" the page to follow our latest posts!

We hope to see you soon at Southcoast Sanctuaries!

Welcome, Emily!

Emily Fink

Emily Fink is a MassLIFT AmeriCorps member who will serve as a Community Engagement Coordinator at Allens Pond during her 11-month service term. She is from Sagamore Beach, MA and attended Bridgewater State University where she earned her degree in Philosophy.

After graduation, Emily did a year of service with AmeriCorps Cape Cod, where she further developed her love of the outdoors and her passion to protect it. She looks forward to her year with Mass Audubon, and is excited to get to know the local community and help in any way she can!

Our Volunteers Rock!

We can't even begin to articulate the importance of our volunteers—from our Sanctuary Advisory Committee members to Duck Derby sales and support crews to trail stewards and volunteer program leaders (just to name a few). We have some of the best folks on the Southcoast helping out and donating time to work with us at Allens Pond and Great Neck.

On Thursday, September 22, we celebrated these amazing individuals at our annual Volunteer Appreciation BBQ held at Stone Barn Farm.

As we move through 2016 and continue work to become certified as a Service Enterprise through the Massachusetts Service Alliance and Points of Light Institute, you'll see some significant changes in the way we run and manage our volunteer program.
