Steve's Bird-a-thon 2020 Fundraising Page
On May 15th and 16th I will be participating in MA Audubon's 2020 Bird-a-thon fundraising event. This event helps raise funds to support local sanctuaries and their efforts to protect the environment. This year presents us with a twofold challenge. The first is our overall limitation on movement and need for social distancing due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The second is the need to raise as much funds as possible to keep our sanctuaries operating. All sanctuaries like schools and businesses have been closed since mid March impacting their ability to generate funds through programs, day camps and school programs. So I'm asking for your support to help close the funding gap.
This year all birding will be done in our own backyards and local birding hot spots within walking distance of our homes. This will be the first carbon-free Bird-a-thon for our team! My birding area will include not only my backyard but also the Burrage Wildlife Management Area in Hanson and Halifax. I'm truly fortunate to have a wildlife area like this adjacent to my home.
Our sanctuary team goal this year is to raise $13,500 but our hope is to go well beyond this goal. These funds will be designated for the stewardship of Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary, Summer Camp scholarships and support for Native Plant Environments and Pollinators. Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary encompasses over 600 acres of varied wildlife habitats and is considered an important bird area in Southeastern Massachusetts. The open fields provide critical nesting opportunities for American Kestrels, Bobolinks and Eastern Bluebirds among many other species. In addition the Sanctuary provides an important stop over point for migrating species.
I am participating in Bird-a-thon because I believe in the importance of protecting the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife. I support Mass Audubon’s efforts to protect and steward the environment of Massachusetts through conservation, education, and advocacy.
Please join me in supporting the work at the South Shore Sanctuary by making a donation through my personal fundraising page.
