Steve's Bird-a-thon 2021 Fundraising Page
On May 14th and 15th I will be participating in MA Audubon's 2021 Bird-a-thon fundraising event. This event helps raise funds to support local sanctuaries and their efforts to protect the environment. Our team’s fund raising efforts will support the Southeast sanctuaries which includes North River, Daniel Webster, North Hill Marsh, Tidmarsh, Allens Pond, Oak Knoll and Great Neck.
This year we have again decided to keep our birding efforts local focusing on birding spots that are within walking or biking distances of our homes. The goal is to be carbon-free and yet find as many many bird species as possible during the event.
Our sanctuary team goal this year is to raise $12,500 but our hope is to go well beyond this goal. These funds will be designated for the stewardship of the Southeast sanctuaries as well as Summer Camp scholarships. Each of the sanctuaries has it's own unique environment and attracts birds and wildlife that are dependent on those environments. Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary is just one example that encompasses over 600 acres of varied wildlife habitats and is considered an important bird area in Southeastern Massachusetts. The open fields provide critical nesting opportunities for American Kestrels, Bobolinks and Eastern Bluebirds among many other species. In addition the Sanctuary provides an important stop over point for migrating species.
I am participating in this event because I believe in the importance of protecting the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife. I support Mass Audubon’s efforts to protect and steward the environment of Massachusetts through conservation, education, and advocacy.
Please join me in supporting the work at the South Shore Sanctuary by making a donation through my personal fundraising page.
