You can make a difference with your contribution!
Stony Brook first got involved in this Mass Audubon fund raising event three years after its inception. Since that time we’ve fielded 33 teams of motivated and enthusiastic birding fundraisers. This year marks our 34th year participating in this important, fun and worthy event. Members of that first Stony Brook team observed 197 species within that 24 hour count period, the 3rd best count we’ve ever turned in! We did not quite hit that mark last year, but not for lack of effort.
Over the past several years our team has hit record fundraising goals several times, and I am asking that you help me do so again this year by donating now. Help us raise $8,000 for Stony Brook’s education and conservation efforts. This year’s proceeds will help us expand our Purple Martin stewardship program (we fledged 55 chicks last year and are adding another 8 gourds this year)and will also help us develop and host an educational and fun high school event which we call The Climate Action Summit. We’ve teamed up with our kindred sanctuaries, Oak Knoll and Moose Hill to make this a regional effort, our goal to clarify the facts about climate change for high school students, and to provide some good positive talking points that can be shared with others in our community. The funds we raise will also be used to support our summer intern program and to provide camp scholarships for the growing number of kids who want to attend Stony Brook’s summer day camp.
I hope you will consider my request and say yes to joining Stony Brook’s Bird-a-thon team members as we rise to meet our funding challenge again this year. I know that together we can raise those funds and I believe our team can find 200 species this year. I need your help and appreciate your support.
