Gwen's Birdathon Page
As you know, I love being outdoors, as does my family. I am raising money for Mass Audubon because I am impressed with how they protect the nature of Massachusetts and share it with us. This year I am again leading a group around Middlesex County. My group has a variety of members; some of them are novice birders looking to learn more, some want to help fundraise for Mass Audubon but don't want to commit to a more rigourous team that stays out really late and birds all day on Saturday. We spend a few hours Friday night and go out again Saturday morning but have a more balanced rather than competative approach.
Here is the official information about Bird-a-thon:
On May 10 through May 11, over 25 teams from all over Massachusetts will compete to identify the most species of birds in a 24 hour period. Bird-a-thon is a reminder of the variety and abundance of wildlife that surrounds us and our responsibility to preserve their habitats.
I am participating in Bird-a-thon because I believe in the importance of protecting the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife. I support Mass Audubon’s efforts to protect and steward the environment of Massachusetts through conservation, education, and advocacy.
