Peter and Marygrace Barber's Bird-A-Thon page
This year, 2019, marks the 12th year of our involvement with Massachusetts Audubon's Bird-A Thon fundraiser on behalf of the Boston Nature Center, the terrific sanctuary in Mattapan. We support this specific sanctuary because of their extraordinary efforts to bring to the youth of Boston the natural world and all of the joys of that experience. The summer camp serves well over 1000 children and this fundraiser earmarks the money raised for tuition scholarships so that all children can attend regardless of ability to pay.
The centerpiece of Bird-a-thon is a 24-hour birding competition where teams representing different Mass Audubon sanctuaries and programs attempt to identify the most species of birds in a 24-hour period. Bird-a-thon serves as a reminder of the variety and abundance of wildlife that surrounds us and our responsibility to preserve their habitats.
Peter and I appreciate your past support and welcome any new donors. Unfortunately we will not be able to actually "bird" with the team on May 10th and 11th, the Bird-A-Thon time but hope that this will not prevent you from donating to our cause. The rest of our team will be covering "birdy" areas all over the state contributing species to the list for the BNC.
You may donate online any amount you would like for this worthy cause which is very dear to our hearts. If you would rather contribute off line you can send a check to us at 70 Pond Street, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 made out to Massachusetts Audubon and we will make sure the Boston Nature Center gets the credit for the donation. We thank you in advance for your generosity. And thanks also for helping to open up the world of nature to children.
