Peggy's Bird-a-thon Appeal
My favorite birding event of the year, Mass Audubon’s Bird-a-thon, will take place on May 11-12. As part of the Wellfleet Bay Bird-a-thon Team, I'll be competing against 24 teams from other wildlife sanctuaries to see which team can identify the most bird species in a 24-hour period. But this fun competition has a serious side, as well: to see which team can raise the most money to support Mass Audubon's conservation programs.
I'm raising money for the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary because I believe in its mission -- to protect the nature of Massachusetts. As a Mass Audubon member, employee, and volunteer (protecting Diamondback Terrapin nests), I've seen the results and enjoyed the benefits of the educational and environmental work the sanctuary does. Wellfleet Bay is a key member of the Outer Cape community, collaborating with other conservation organizations, doing outreach into elementary and middle school classrooms, and filling the Cape calendar with workshops, programs, films, and nature walks. And, if those aren't enough reasons for me to support the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, how's this: We're making Wellfleet our year-round home in just a few weeks!
Your donation to Bird-a-thon will ensure that the sanctuary can continue to protect the birds, other wildlife, and habitats that make the Outer Cape so special at a time when the environment needs all the help we can give it.
Thank you in advance for your support!
