David Moon's Bird-a-thon Fundraising Page
As Sanctuary Director of Joppa Flats Education Center, I invite you to invest in our effort to protect nature.
This year, the challenge we face is vastly greater than ever. Our own United States Department of Interior has attempted to gut the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the foundational law Mass Audubon formed to protect wild birds. Many other landmark federal laws and regulations to protect nature we have fought for over the past fifty years have been under severe attack. Now with our responsible closing of sanctuaries and cancellation of programs in response to the COVID-19 crisis, we face the loss of program revenue we use to operate every day. We are dedicated to keep going, weather this storm, and restore the protections you have helped us build. No matter what happens, we are dedicated to educating the next generation, inspiring young leaders, celebrating nature, spotting all the birds we can, and ensuring the continuity of care for the natural world we all depend on.
This year’s Bird-a-thon is the time to help Joppa Flats and Mass Audubon survive and come back strong, so we can bring birding to thousands of people every year, bring the Great Marsh, Plum Island, and the sea to thousands of other seekers of the peace of wild things. We know that connecting people to birds and to nature helps to protect them. We go further, with scientific study of what matters most to nature behind the education center and across our state. Thank you for contributing to our Bird-a-Thon effort, which this year especially is a critical way we ensure Joppa Flats can do so much good work. We dearly appreciate your support!
