From May 15-16, over 750 people will participate in Mass Audubon’s Bird-a-thon. That is sooo many people!
The Bird-a-thon is a 24-hour birding competition where teams representing different Mass Audubon sanctuaries and programs attempt to identify the most species of birds in a 24-hour period. That isn’t a lot of time! Actually, we see some birds right now! Okay, fine. We always see a TON of birds in out backyard and this year the Bird-a-thon will take place at home and anywhere within walking distance of it. How lucky for us! Well, we will stop being chatterboxes and GET TO WORK TYPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What’s important is that the Bird-a-thon serves as a reminder of the variety and abundance of wildlife that surrounds us and our responsibility to preserve their habitats. In addition to raising awareness, the Bird-a-thon is also Mass Audubon’s fundraiser. This year, we are raising money for the Boston Nature Center because we believe in the importance of protecting the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife. All the money we and our teammates raise will support Boston Nature Center’s vacation week, and summer vacation programs for kids like us.
Please donate through our personal web page in order to support Mass Audubon’s efforts to protect and take care of the environment of Massachusetts through conservation, education, and advocacy.
