Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary
Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary's Team Page
From May 11-12, over 750 people from all over Massachusetts will focus on nature and participate in Mass Audubon’s annual Bird-a-thon fundraiser.
The centerpiece of Bird-a-thon is a 24-hour birding competition where teams representing different Mass Audubon sanctuaries and programs attempt to identify the most species of birds in a 24-hour period. Bird-a-thon serves as a reminder of the variety and abundance of wildlife that surrounds us and our responsibility to preserve their habitats.
Our team is participating in Bird-a-thon because we believe in the importance of protecting the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife and Bird-a-thon is a great way to raise awareness of the work that we do while supporting some healthy competition among the staff and volunteers. Let's face it, when you can match raising money for important work and having fun while doing that, you are sure to have a winning combination!
Last year, with a team spread out across the state, Moose Hill reached new heights. With 229 species of birds identified in the 24-hours we were nervous about our overall standings, but when the Brewster Cup was awarded for most species seen, Moose Hill won! Our team was estatic and we are charged up to defend our title this year. But, winning the title was not the only exciting achievement - we also reached a new high in our fundraising efforts. Because of supporters like you, we raised $4,200 to protect and steward the environment of Massachusetts through conservation, education, and advocacy.
And a new year is upon us! Once again we are ready to head out and bird, defend our title, and raise even more to protect the nature of Massachusetts for people and for wildlife. We have set an ambitious goal to raise $6,000 this year and we hope that you will support our efforts - every dollar counts!
