Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary's Team Page

This year, as in previous years, we have multiple goals that include having a great time birding with new and familiar friends, raising funds that help support Stony Brook’s conservation and education efforts, and following our passion for observing the beautiful birds that occur in Massachusetts. This year’s Bird-a-thon will be different because of the unusual circumstance we find ourselves facing. We’ll bird with our friends virtually and we will be birding primarily from our own homes and local neighborhoods in order to continue to follow the guidelines on keeping safe during this pandemic. The reward for this will be the savings in carbon emissions since we will not be driving.

We are counting on your support.

The centerpiece of Bird-a-thon is the 24-hour birding competition where teams representing different Mass Audubon sanctuaries and programs attempt to identify the most species of birds in a 24-hour period. This year’s event promises interesting results as we learn more about the birds living in our neighborhoods. What will be the most unusual bird reported and from where?
Our team is participating in Bird-a-thon because we believe in the importance of protecting the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife. We support Mass Audubon’s efforts to protect and steward the environment of Massachusetts through conservation, education, and advocacy.

Your support of the Stony Brook Bird-a-thon team has a direct and positive impact on the programs we are able to provide to school kids in Franklin, Foxboro, Medfield, Medway, Millis, Norfolk, Walpole, Wrentham, and beyond.

This year we hope to expand our conservation efforts to include stewarding the growing purple martin colony at Stony Brook, hosting a Climate Action Summit for local high school students, and expanding our conservation efforts in our local communities.
Your support for the Stony Brook team will help to make these education and conservation efforts possible. This makes Bird-a-thon one of the most effective methods for supporting our educational programs annually, helping to strengthen the relationship between local kids, our communities, local overnments, and our environment!

Thank you for supporting our efforts!
