Mass Audubon's Bird-a-thon 2020

Nantucket WS & MMA

Nantucket WS & MMA Team

In partnership with the Maria Mitchell Association

From May 15-16, nature heroes from all over Massachusetts will focus on nature by participating in Mass Audubon and Maria Mitchell Association’s annual Bird-a-thon fundraiser. Due to COVID-19, we are re-imagining this event and presenting the organizations first Bird-at-home-a-thon, which will be carbon-free, safety-focused, and family-friendly!

Teams representing different Mass Audubon sanctuaries and the Maria Mitchell Association will come together to collectively identify as many species of birds in a 24-hour period and also complete other fun, nature-based activities from their home. Bird-at-home-a-thon serves as a reminder of the variety and abundance of wildlife that surrounds us and our responsibility to preserve their habitats.

Our team is participating in Bird-at-home-a-thon because we believe in the importance of protecting the nature of Massachusetts and Nantucket for people and wildlife. We support Mass Audubon’s efforts to protect and steward the environment of Massachusetts through conservation, education, and advocacy and Maria Mitchell Association’s mission to develop a life-long passion for science through education, research and hands-on exploration of the sky, land and sea of Nantucket island.

Please join us in supporting this important work by making a donation through our team's fundraising page! See details below for how to participate!

→ How It Works ←

Due to COVID-19, this year's event will be a family-friendly, carbon-free, safety-focused BIRD-AT-HOME-A-THON! There are new rules and a revised point system, and the winning team will be the one that's earned the highest number of points.

→ How to Participate ←
One you join a team you can start fundraising. From May 15-16, you can also earn points for your team by birding and/or completing nature-themed activities. Every species a team sees will count towards our cooperative, statewide effort to spot all 286 bird species that can be found in Massachusetts during spring!

Just want to bird without fundraising? Skip the online registration process. Instead, please contact your Team Captain to join the team roster without creating a fundraiser.
