The Connecticut River carries the lifeblood of New England. Stretching from Quebec to Long Island Sound, the river supplies drinking water to over 4.8 million people and provides essential habitat for threatened and endangered species like the Piping Plover and Short-nosed Sturgeon.
For hundreds of years, however, the Connecticut River Watershed has been polluted and neglected, degrading its ability to provide clean water and wildlife habitat to the communities that depend on it.
Now, we have a chance to direct the river to a cleaner and healthier future. The Connecticut River Watershed Partnership Act (CRWPA), introduced this month by Senator Jean Shaheen (D-NH), and Representative Jim McGovern (D-MA), will create permanent federal funding for conservation, ecological restoration, education, and recreation in the five-state Connecticut River Watershed—one of the largest river conservation efforts in decades.
Rep. McGovern and Rep. Richard Neal are leading the fight for a healthier watershed, but we still need the rest of the Massachusetts delegation to sign on to get this bill passed. Reach out to your representative today to urge them to fight for a heathier future for New England's most important watershed!
