Hoping for a Kestrel of Support
From May 13-14, nature heroes from all over Massachusetts will celebrate nature by participating in Mass Audubon's annual Bird-a-thon fundraiser!
During this event, teams representing different Mass Audubon wildlife sanctuaries or statewide programs recruit team members to participate in the fun while also raising funds to support Mass Audubon's work protecting the nature of Massachusetts.
Why I'm Participating
Three reasons!
1. My values: time has not dimmed my passion for nature around us and the imperative that we (re)learn how to co-exist with other beings. Learning takes many forms; one particularly deep & meaningful form is Camp. Adults report again and again that camp was THE most profound experience where, as kids, they developed their love for nature. We need to give more kids more of this.
2. My team: it's a social opportunity filled with strategy, laughs, coffee, shared "wow" moments, and future memories. Come join me!
3. Myself: I love the challenge to tune my ears, recall ecological associations, and dive into a diversity of habitats over the course of 24 hours. It's only a day but boy is it packed with LIFE!
This year, my fundraising for Birdathon will support environmental education, specifically our summer Nature Camps at Oak Knoll and North River. Not only will kids be transformed by attending these camps but, because of Birdathon fundraising, so will our Team - by having the capacity to include more campers. In time, we will be able to host even MORE camps across our region. 100% of our fundraising efforts stay in the South East.
