Long before I worked at Arcadia, I found it a beautiful place in which to enjoy nature. Now that I get to spend half me week here, I’m honored to be part of work and particularly inspired by our new and ambitious Action Agenda that will harness the power of members, donors, volunteers, and the wildlife sanctuary system to reach ambitious and inspiring goals. Work at Arcadia and throughout Western Mass is central to achieving these goals in the 3 main areas:

Protect and steward resilient landscapes for people and wildlife. The majority of land available for protection is in the West Region. Current and future sanctuaries require careful management and restoration of habitat to support wildlife. Examples of what your gifts make possible:

• Plant a tree to restore flood plan forest:  $10
• Maintain an acre of grasslands for bird breeding: $80
• Outreach and education by our land protection specialist to a land owner exploring conservation options for their property: $150

Advance inclusive and equitable access to nature. At Arcadia, our nature education programs in schools are central to how we help people of diverse background connect to nature. Examples of what your gift makes possible:

• Three sessions of Berkshires Environmental Literacy (BEL)’s in-school programming for an elementary school classroom in Pittsfield: $600. Cost per child: $30

Mobilize to fight climate change. In Western Mass, we will continue our innovated youth programs and launch new training programs. Examples of what your gift makes possible:

• The participation of a student from a Berkshires or Valley school in the Youth Climate Summit and follow up support to implement their climate action plans: $278
• Host a Community Climate Change Workshop for a community or group wanting to increase its effectiveness: $200
