Mass Audubon Bird-a-thon

Islands Wildlife Sanctuaries

Islands Wildlife Sanctuaries Team

Felix Neck • Nantucket

As most Islander’s know there is a huge rivalry between Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. It may seem that nothing could bring our two islands together. Well this has been a year of unprecedented change and this year we are joining our sister island for the sake of the environment! Felix Neck and Nantucket Sanctuaries have teamed up under the Islands Hub Sanctuaries Team to raise money to further our mission of environmental education and conservation.

 From May 14–15, nature heroes from all over Massachusetts will celebrate nature by participating in Bird-a-thon, Mass Audubon's largest annual fundraiser. This year is particularly special because Mass Audubon is celebrating its 125th anniversary!
Through Bird-a-thon, teams representing different Mass Audubon wildlife sanctuaries and programs raise money while helping people of all ages connect with nature in communities across the state (and beyond!).
Our team is participating in Bird-a-thon because we believe that nature needs our support now more than ever. Our team members help us fundraise, participate in family-friendly nature activities, and take part in a team birding competition to find the greatest number of species in a single 24-hour period.

So, what do you say, please join our team or donate and let’s show those off-islanders that together we can make an impact!

Your donation helps to support:

  • Island wide programs, including the Climate Cafes, Citizen science programs which monitor important species such as the osprey, horseshoe crabs, spade-foot toads and salamanders.
  • Supporting Mass Audubon's land stewardship including our sanctuary's trail maintenance, creating access-able trails, updated signage, and maps so the public can continue to safely enjoy nature on-island;
  • Funding the islands' Coastal Water Bird program to monitor and protect the Islands’ host of beach-nesting bird species including federally threatened or endangered species including Piping Plover, Least Terns, and Roseate Terns (Mass Audubon's Logo!)
  • Funding for our Fern and Feather Preschool and Summer Camp, giving future generations the opportunity to learn and connect with nature.

You can support our team, or a specific team member, by making a donation through this secure fundraising website. Thank you for cheering us on!
